We're Launch Woburn — the rockets, drones & RC aircraft club at Woburn C.I. in Scarborough. We meet up, we build things, we send them into the sky. It's honestly just a good time.
We're a student-run club at Woburn Collegiate Institute in Scarborough. Every week we get together to design, build, and fly rockets, drones, and RC aircraft. Some of us have been tinkering with this stuff for years. Some of us just think rockets are cool. Both are valid.
We've got a room, some tools, a 3D printer that mostly works, and a lot of enthusiasm. We're not trying to be SpaceX — we're just a bunch of students who'd rather build an airframe than sit through another spare. You know?
Whether you've never touched a soldering iron or you've already built your own quad from scratch, you're welcome here. Seriously. We'll teach you.
Each division does its own thing, but we share tools, space, and the same unhealthy obsession with making things go up.
Model rockets, mid-power motors, recovery systems, the whole thing. We design them in CAD, build them by hand, and launch them at our fly days. The countdown never gets old, trust us.
FPV quads, custom builds from the frame up, and learning to fly without crashing into things (mostly). We wire ESCs, tune PIDs, and race through gates. It's as fun as it sounds.
Fixed-wing planes, gliders, foam-board builds — this is old-school RC but with a modern twist. Learn real aerodynamics while building something you can actually go fly at the park.
Here's roughly what a semester looks like. It's chill but we actually get stuff done, promise.
This is where most of the magic happens. We meet after school, pull out the tools, and work on whatever we're building. Could be a rocket fin, a drone frame, a wing rib — depends on the week. Music's usually playing. Snacks are sometimes involved.
Soldering 101, intro to CAD, "how do wings even work" — we run beginner-friendly workshops so nobody feels lost. We also bring in guest speakers when we can, usually people from university engineering teams or local aerospace groups.
The best days. We take our builds outside and actually fly them. Timed drone runs, altitude attempts, glider distance challenges — and yeah, sometimes we enter competitions against other schools too.
We demo at school events, post our builds on Instagram, and try to get more people interested in this stuff. If you're reading this and thinking "that sounds kinda cool" — that's literally the goal.
Nope. Zero. None. We'll teach you everything from scratch — soldering, CAD, basic electronics, aerodynamics, all of it. Most of our members started with no background at all. Just show up and be curious.
We provide tools and materials for club projects. If you want to build your own personal stuff eventually, that's up to you — but it's definitely not required. We'll hook you up with what you need.

Yeah, 100%. We're not one of those clubs with a sign-up deadline. Just come to a meeting and introduce yourself. We'll catch you up — it's really not that serious.
It's actually fun. Like, genuinely. We're here because we like building things and watching them fly. Yeah it looks great on applications too, but that's a bonus — not the point.
